Crack sealing is an essential, in-house routine preventative maintenance service activity designed to protect and extend the life of our roads. The process involves placing a pliable sealant directly into open cracks on the pavement.
- Why It Matters: Cracks in the roadway can cause water to seep into the road, which can lead to severe structural problems, such as potholes or pavement failure. By sealing the cracks, it prevents seepage and extends the life cycle of the roadway.
Crack sealing is typically the first step in the County's annual Pavement Preservation Program and is followed by a pavement preservation treatment (e.g. slurry sela, micro-surfacing, chip seal, etc.)
2026 Crack Sealing Project: Montara & Miramar
