Marisol Escalera serves as Chief of Staff for San Mateo County’s Third Supervisorial District. In this role, she oversees all operations of the office, leading and coordinating key policy initiatives and legislative priorities while ensuring alignment with the district’s vision and goals. She plays a central role in shaping and advancing policies that address the needs of communities across both the Bayside and Coastside.

Before her appointment as Chief of Staff, Marisol served as Policy Director and Legislative Policy Aide for the Third District. In these roles, she supported Supervisor Mueller in establishing the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement and collaborated with the County on outreach initiatives, including efforts to expand access to language services, legal assistance, and community-based resources for residents of San Mateo County.

Before joining the Third District, Marisol worked as Supervisor of Student Recruitment at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. There, she led enrollment efforts for migratory students within Student Services, collaborating with families across Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and San Benito counties. Her efforts supported the mission of the Office of Migrant Education, advancing initiatives to expand access and improve academic outcomes for underserved communities, including children of agricultural and fishery workers.

While in graduate school, Marisol was appointed to the State Council on Developmental Disabilities’ Central Coast Regional Advisory Committee, where she served in an at-large capacity representing Santa Clara County. In this role, she worked to advance priorities such as self-advocacy, employment, housing, public safety, health, special education, and community services.

A San Jose native, Marisol earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology (with an emphasis in Law and Society) and Spanish Studies from Santa Clara University. She went on to receive a Master of Arts in Education and a second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership focusing on access and equity, followed by a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mills College.

Her current policy portfolio includes Health, Seniors, Agricultural workers, and Housing. She also serves as an alternate member on the Community Action Agency for Supervisor Mueller.

Outside of her professional work, Marisol has volunteered as a medical volunteer and mentored youth.
