Redwood City – The County of San Mateo is encouraging residents to prepare for the season’s first PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) starting tonight by signing up to receive emergency alerts and follow the County on social media.
PG&E has informed the County that nearly 1,700 customers will lose power beginning tonight between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. due to hot and dry weather that will increase fire danger.
The outage is scheduled to last 48 hours, until 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 when power is estimated to be restored. Approximately 1,687 PG&E customers and 56 medical baseline customers will be affected in the southern and coastal areas of the county, including in Half Moon Bay, Woodside and La Honda. All but 20 customers are in the unincorporated area.
County Parks has closed Huddart, Wunderlich and Edgewood parks effective immediately, through the duration of the PSPS. Please visit parks.smcgov.org for updates.
The San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is closely monitoring the situation and working closely with the potentially impacted areas and public safety.

PG&E will open two Community Resource Centers where residents can receive water, air conditioning and power charging for devices.

To prepare for the PSPS, PG&E is asking customers to:
- Update contact information at pge.com/mywildfirealerts or by calling 1-866-743-6589 during normal business hours. PG&E will use this information to alert customers through automated calls, texts, and emails, when possible, prior to, and during, a PSPS.
- Plan for medical needs like medications that require refrigeration or devices that need power.
- Identify backup charging methods for phones and keep hard copies of emergency numbers.
- Build or restock your emergency kit with flashlights, fresh batteries, first aid supplies and cash.
