Public Works activities are regulated by a wide variety of agencies and permits intended to protect water quality and endangered species. Watershed Protection Services staff work closely with the regulatory agencies to ensure that current requirements are being met. Staff also provide construction site monitoring to document crew and contractor compliance with permit conditions and contract requirements for erosion control and water pollution control.

Construction Site Monitoring

Department of Public Works construction sites are monitored in accordance with project permits, and as required to ensure that impacts to sensitive resources are avoided or minimized. Monitoring visits are conducted without advance notice so that actual work conditions may be observed. Turbidity testing is conducted where either required by project permits, or where runoff from the site contains visible suspended material (i.e. sediment). Report forms are generated with each visit and copies are provided to the contractor.
