About the Project
This work is part of a grassland restoration project that will treat 4.5 acres in the vicinity of the Valley View Trail. The project aims to restore the area's former ecosystem by replacing shrubs with perennial grasses and wildflowers. The first component of the project will focus on controlling invasive broom, shrubs, and trees. We will also remove approximately a third of the coyote brush in the area, which despite being a native species, is a quick-growing species that has caused loss of much grassland throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
The second component of the project will involve re-planting the area with native coastal prairie plants. The Parks Department will continue monitoring the area and maintaining native grassland plantings over the coming years. Monitoring may prompt additional weed and invasive species control work.
