About This Project
In the process of developing the Quarry Park Master Plan a desire was identified to have a community pump track installed at Quarry Park. San Mateo County Parks, community members, and our hired contracor, Gates + Associates, have collaborated to develop a design concept. The bike community has been surveyed about desirable pump track features and Gates + Associates, with the input of a focus group, provided design alternatives. The preferred concept was approved by the Parks Commission on July 14, 2021.
What is a pump track? A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping"—generating momentum by up and down body movements—instead of pedaling or pushing. A pump track is not a jump track.
Next Steps
Steps to select a contractor to build the Quarry Park Pump track are in motion. Designs are complete, permits have been obtained, and the call for construction bids will be posted in January 2022.
While the department had scheduled site grading to begin mid-September, the need to complete the first phase of Quarry Park’s fuel reduction project near the meadow took precedence and ensures no conflict between fuel reduction work and pump track construction moving forward. Construction is expected to begin mid-to-late spring 2022.

Pump Track Preferred Concept
