CAL FIRE CZU to Conduct Prescribed Fire on San Francisco Public Utilities Watershed Lands
September 27, 2023
  • On Thursday, September 28, weather permitting, CAL FIRE CZU will conduct a prescribed fire on brush and grass near Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir in San Mateo County. Sheep Camp Trail, a popular connector trail to Crystal Springs Regional Trail, will be closed from the gate off Hwy 280 to Cañada Road.

Smoke may be visible in Woodside, Belmont, Burlingame, Emerald Hills, San Carlos Hills, and parts of I-280 in San Mateo County. There will be extensive fire equipment and a helicopter on scene. There is no need to call 911.

The objective is to reduce fire fuel, lower the risk of a larger fire and to increase coastal prairie habitat which is disappearing due to lack of disturbance and brush encroachment. It has been planned as part of broader strategic efforts to protect the local community and nearby natural resources. To learn more, see the CalFire-issued press release attached below.

Nearby Ralston Bike Trail continues to be closed for PG&E gas pipeline work until October 31. For more information see Summer 2023 Closures on Crystal Springs Regional Trail
