  • On Friday, November 24 the Sawyer Camp segment of Crystal Springs Regional Trail reopened after a months-long closure due to storm damage in early 2023.

Contractors have completed culvert repairs. They have repaired the failed section of the Sawyer Camp segment that was approximately 25 feet wide and about 7 feet deep and repaved and restriped it. To stabilize the area and prevent future erosion, crews installed filter material to support drainage and covered the outer slope with layers of large rocks.

Sawyer Camp Trail was one of several San Mateo County Parks severely impacted by storms in early 2023. Beyond flooding and downed trees, the trail sustained extensive damage in multiple areas. During the trail closure, we heard from many hikers and cyclists how important the trail is to them—for physical activity, social interaction, and the calming benefits of nature.
