Redwood City – The County of San Mateo continues to work to protect public health and safety in response to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. The County of San Mateo’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to coordinate countywide response and communications in response to the situation. The EOC’s Joint Information Center will provide status reports every Thursday until further notice. Today’s report:

Due to reports of possible protests and plans for violence at state capitols and other government buildings including federal and state courthouses throughout the country on inauguration day, the San Mateo Superior Court will be closed to the public on January 20. The temporary closure includes juvenile courts at the County Youth Service Center, court proceedings at its South San Francisco branch, as well as court operations at the County Center in Redwood City.

A New Partner for Police: Mental Health Professionals to Respond to 9-1-1 Calls for People in Crisis

Health professionals will team with police to help people in a mental health or substance use crisis in San Mateo County’s four largest cities. The pilot program approved today by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors seeks to defuse volatile 9-1-1 calls and provide appropriate care for non-violent individuals.
