Board of Supervisors Unanimously Approved Deportation Legal Defense Fund

This week, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved $764,000 for an Immigration Deportation Legal Defense Fund. We did so after hearing the impassioned pleas from many who came to our last two Board meetings to share their stories – and anger at the treatment of immigrant families, particularly the children, at our borders.

San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Approves FY18-19 Budget

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors at its June 26, 2018,  meeting approved a $2.75 billion Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2018-19 after including $764,000 to create an immigrant defense fund.

The County of San Mateo released its Fiscal Year 2018-19 Recommended Budget which the Board of Supervisors will consider at the end of June along with advice from outgoing County Manager John Maltbie to prepare for future economic uncertainty.

Last night we held the first session of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in North Fair Oaks. It was a full class with 39 CERT volunteers registered for the class.

County of San Mateo Board of Supervisors Bans Flavored Tobacco Sales

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 in favor of banning the sale of flavored tobacco products at pharmacies and retailers in the unincorporated areas of the county as a way to promote community health, particularly among youth.

When I was serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, mail day was always made more meaningful when I received a care package from home.  That is why when I heard that our San Mateo County Blue Star Moms needed help raising funds for postage to send quarterly care packages to our troops deployed overseas, I was honored to lend a hand.
