San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Votes Unanimously to Implement Laura's Law

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously today to enact Laura’s Law --  state legislation authorizing the courts to order outpatient treatment for individuals with a mental illness who may be a danger to themselves or others -- on a one-year trial basis.

Have you ever had a supply of extra drugs that you didn't know what to do with? San Mateo County has a program that allows people to drop off drugs, even controlled prescription drugs. There's no paperwork. It's just a self-service drop off into what looks like old mailboxes at several police departmetns or the Sheriff's Office in Redwood City. Read here...

One East Palo Alto to serve its 1000th Young Person This Year through their Sponsored Employment Program

Remember your very first job? Remember how hard it was to get without any experience? Every year, One East Palo Alto, an organization that brings together all of the community of East Palo Alto, holds a fundraiser for their Sponsored Employment Program (SEP) which helps young people from the city find paid internships and their very first job. This year they will place the 1000th young person.

San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Establishes the San Mateo County Veterans Commission

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015 the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to establish a Veterans Commission to better serve the needs of the 33,000 veterans who live here.

The Redesign of Flood County Park

It is now time to reimagine Flood Park, to hear and learn from the community about what their dreams are for their park and how new park use and concepts may be incorporated into an overall design. The Parks Department and the design consultant, Gates and Associates, will hold a public meeting with idea-gathering exercises to encourage creativity and focus on the park's potential. NFO Community Clean-Up Day

On May 30th, 170 people from the North Fair Oaks community turned out for the 3rd Annual NFO Clean-Up Day. In a couple of hours, we managed to pick up 2.61 tons of garbage, debris, tires, mattresses, cigarette butts and rubbish. That's over 5,000 lbs. of trash! Read more here...

San Mateo County launches ID card program for veterans

San Mateo County issued new ID cards Wednesday that are meant to provide the county's approximately 33,000 veterans with an easy way to easily verify their status, eligibility for existing federal and state programs and merchant discounts.

County of San Mateo Releases Balanced Budget

San Mateo County Manager John L. Maltbie today unveiled a two-year balanced budget for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 fiscal years that invests in affordable housing, foster care, early childhood education and public safety while rebuilding aging infrastructure and continuing the County’s implementation of federal health care reform.
