Making a Difference with Meals and Friendship

The Department of Housing is proud to fund organizations like Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. whose work helps older adults remain in their home with nourishing meals and neighborly check-ins.

SB 267 Reduces Barriers for People with Rental Subsidies

Starting on January 1, 2024, landlords must consider a housing applicant’s receipt of a government rent subsidy including, for example, a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, when assessing the applicant’s income and ability to pay the rent.  In addition, housing applicants who receive a government rent subsidy must be allowed to provide an alternative to a credit report as a means of proving their ability to pay rent, including, for example, public benefit payments, pay records, and bank statements.

New Affordable Homes Coming to Burlingame

A loan of $5,698,107 from San Mateo County’s Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) and an award of 30 Project-Based Vouchers from the Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo helped to pave the way for construction to start in late December 2023 on Eucalyptus Grove Apartments in Burlingame.

Memorial Campsite Reservations for July 10-13 Temporarily on Hold

Campsite reservations at Memorial County Park for July 10–13 are on hold until the Department finalizes its centennial celebration plans in the upcoming weeks.

Construction of Tunitas Creek Beach Underway

The transformation of the 58-acre Tunitas Creek Beach property into San Mateo County’s newest park is in progress. Construction crews are working on the mid-bluff area and the access trail to the beach. The pink house has been demolished and natural material was cleared followed by rough grading. This is where most visitor services will be located, including seating, an overlook to the beach and southern bluffs, a picnic sites, interpretive panels, public restrooms, and staff facilities. Construction is anticipated to begin this spring.

Request for Proposals (RFP) for Accela Implementation and Maintenance Support Services

The County of San Mateo Planning and Building Department's Request for Proposals (RFP) No. PLN24-0109 seeks an experienced provider who is adept at designing and delivering online Accela permitting systems; supporting staff in their use of these and other integrated systems; and implementing upgrades to these systems that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of electronic permitting procedures.

Department of Housing Announces Three NOFA's

The County of San Mateo Department of Housing invites applications for three Notices of Funding Availability (NOFA) FY 2024-25 housing and community development activities and projects funded via federal and State funding and the Equity Innovation Fund (EIF) Program.  Based on 2023-24 funding the County estimates there will be approximately $4,450,143.82 to distribute for Capital Projects, $1,553,244.02 to distribute for Community Development activities and $482,986 to distribute through the Equity Innovation Fu

Volunteers Needed for One-Day Homeless Count on January 25th

The County of San Mateo’s Human Services Agency (HSA) seeks volunteers to implement the One Day Homeless Count on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5 AM to 10 AM.  Trained volunteers will be deployed across the County to conduct an observational count of individuals who are unsheltered. Volunteers will navigate every street within their assigned census tract and record their findings using a mobile application.

Senator Josh Becker Announces Funds for Ohlone-Portolá Heritage Trail Signage

On Dec. 7, 2023 Senator Josh Becker presented a symbolic check for $500,000 to San Mateo County leaders to fund a series of historic monument sites that will be installed along the 90-mile Ohlone-Portolá Heritage Trail.

Follow-up Eucayptus Removal on Northwest of San Bruno Mountain Park, Dec 4–6

From Monday through Wednesday, December 4–6, weather permitting, San Mateo Parks and contractors will work to control regrowth of invasive Eucalyptus across two acres on the northwest boundary of San Bruno Mountain Park, near properties along Florence St. and Mountain View Dr.
