The Commission on the Status of Women is proud to announce four Honorees and two Young Women of Excellence will be inducted into the 2024 San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame on March 8, 2024. A leader in economic development, a long-time public servant and community advocate, a co-founder of CoastPride , an advocate for mental health equity, and two teen leaders will be inducted into the 2024 San Mateo County Women's Hall of Fame, the county's premier showcase for women* who make a difference every day in our community.

The Commission on the Status of Women have extended the deadline to take their two engagement surveys. The Commission is seeking community input in two areas of focus: economic stability and child-care. We invite you to read our purpose for both surveys and how your input will help direct reports we will write that will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 Barbara Hammerman Award, an annual recognition sponsored by the San Mateo County Domestic Violence Council. In 2005, the Domestic Violence Council established the Hammerman Award, ratified by the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County, for the purpose of recognizing outstanding law enforcement officers for their contribution and service to survivors of domestic violence and their children. In 2009 the award was expanded to include professionals who provide services to victims of domestic violence.

The San Mateo County Domestic Violence Council’s Domestic Violence Awareness Committee, in collaboration with the San Mateo County Youth Commission, is proud to announce a successful first annual Healthy Relationships Art Contest for Teens.

The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls is honored to announce that the state budget includes additional one-time funding of 7.9 million dollars, 5 million of which will be utilized to facilitate a statewide Women’s Recovery Response in the wake of COVID-19.  The Commission thanks the Governor and the California Legislature, especially Budget staff and Chairs Senator Nancy Skinner and Assemblymember Phil Ting, and Women’s Caucus Chair Assemblymember Christina Garcia, for their commitment to California’s women and girls.

The Commission on the Status of Women is thrilled to introduce two amazing keynote speakers for the RISE 2022 Women’s Leadership Conference. Sallie Krawcheck, CEO and co-founder of Ellevest, will be providing a morning keynote at 9:00am while Lan Phan, CEO and founder of community of SEVEN, will be providing the closing keynote at 4:00pm.

Redwood City – The San Mateo County Supervisorial District Lines Advisory Commission will hold the first in a series of meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. This first meeting launches a months-long public process to hear from the community about district boundaries for electing the Board of Supervisors for the next decade. Applications now being accepted for 15th and final seat on the commission Redwood City – The Board of Supervisors today appointed 14 residents reflecting the diversity of San Mateo County to the District Lines Advisory Commission.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants interested in serving on the 2021 Supervisorial District Lines Advisory Commission. Once formed, the 11-member Commission will hold a series of public meetings to study the boundaries of the County’s five supervisorial districts. The Commission’s work will be supported by a professional demographer and County staff.

The Commission on the Status of Women of San Mateo County received tremendous response for its vacancy recruitment. Over 24 applications were received from throughout San Mateo County and after a thorough review by a panel comprised of two County supervisors and representatives from the Commission and staff, seven applicants were offered appointments to the Commission.

Supervisor Carole Groom will serve as president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in 2015. She was elected president by her four colleagues at a meeting Tuesday morning at the Board of Supervisors Chambers in Redwood City.
