Board of Supervisors Pass Ambitious Climate Goals for County Operations

Redwood City – The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on January 26 adopted the Government Operations Climate Action Plan (GOCAP), a comprehensive strategy to address the climate crisis making significant reductions to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. The passage of the GOCAP establishes the County of San Mateo as a regional climate leader with the strongest climate action plan for government operations among the Bay Area counties. ​​

Due to reports of possible protests and plans for violence at state capitols and other government buildings including federal and state courthouses throughout the country on inauguration day, the San Mateo Superior Court will be closed to the public on January 20.

A New Partner for Police: Mental Health Professionals to Respond to 9-1-1 Calls for People in Crisis

Health professionals will team with police to help people in a mental health or substance use crisis in San Mateo County’s four largest cities. The pilot program approved today by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors seeks to defuse volatile 9-1-1 calls and provide appropriate care for non-violent individuals.

San Mateo County Expands Free Wireless Internet

Redwood City – The County of San Mateo is bringing free high-speed wireless internet access to areas of the North Fair Oaks and Stambaugh Heller neighborhoods of Redwood City. This expansion of SMC Public WiFi provides free wireless Internet access to 665 unconnected K-12 students and to thousands of residents and community members who live or visit these neighborhoods.

Jan. 5, 2021: San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Names New President

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors today unanimously selected Supervisor David Canepa, who represents District Five in the North County, as the 2021 president during its annual reorganization. The Board also chose District Three Supervisor Don Horsley as 2021 vice president.
