On the heels of the CZU Lightning Complex wildfires, the County of San Mateo and its public safety partners are launching a “Know Your Zone” campaign to help county residents and businesses be better prepared for the next evacuation or emergency.

Voters in the three counties served by Caltrain passed a measure that will add a one one-eighth cent sales tax in each county to help the financially struggling rail system. Measure RR will provide Caltrain an estimated $100 million annually for the next 30 years to help fund operations, including expansion of service and capacity, as well as major capital projects. Redwood City – The County of San Mateo is encouraging residents to prepare for the season’s first PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) starting tonight by signing up to receive emergency alerts and follow the County on social media. PG&E has informed the County that nearly 1,700 customers will lose power beginning tonight between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. due to hot and dry weather that will increase fire danger.

Redwood City — Calling San Mateo County Manager Mike Callagy an exceptional leader during the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis and recent wildfires, the Board of Supervisors today unanimously voted to extend his contract for four years.

The Board of Supervisors today adopted a $3.7 billion budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year that includes an additional $160 million to help pay for the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board’s 5-0 vote followed a public hearing held via videoconference.

San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow has issued a health order prohibiting the unsafe removal, transport, and disposal of fire debris and other hazardous materials from structures burned during the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires without written permission from Environmental Health Services.
