The fire that began two weeks ago with a series of lightning strikes was 39 percent contained as of this morning, according to CalFire officials.

San Mateo County Manager Mike Callagy today signed an emergency regulation to temporarily authorize County staff and contractors to enter private property so they can conduct safety assessments of areas impacted by the CZU Lightning Complex fires.

The fire grew to 78,000 acres across portions of southern San Mateo County and northern Santa Cruz County with 13 percent containment as of this morning.

Approximately 4,600 people are under evacuation orders in the San Mateo County fire area. The County along with the American Red Cross is providing alternative housing for those who need it.

Fire and public safety officials ask people to avoid driving to the San Mateo County coast to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles as well as residents evacuating from a series of wildfires raging through southern San Mateo and northern Santa Cruz counties.
