Redwood City – San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow has rescinded his health order governing visitation at long-term care and other congregate living facilities. The previous order went into effect on October 29, 2020 and was part of a series of orders setting guidelines for non-essential visitors, including family members, to enter congregate care facilities and interact safely with residents.

On March 8, 2020, the California Department of Public Health issued an All Facilities Letter, with guidelines for congregate care facilities to conduct visitation based on the facility’s structure and residents’ needs for circumstances beyond compassionate care situations, while adhering to core principles of COVID-19 infection prevention at all times.

The action by the San Mateo County Health Officer lifts the local order and directs skilled nursing, residential care for the elderly, residential treatment centers, hospice facilities, group homes, and others providing care in a residential setting to follow the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, California Department of Public Health, the California Department of Social Services, and other relevant agencies.
