SUN Bucks Summer Food Program Renewed for Kids in 2025!
California’s Summer EBT program, known as SUN Bucks, is back for Summer 2025. This food program provides families $40 per month for food in June, July, and August ($120 total) when children do not have access to school meals.
Most children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application or Universal Benefits Application, or get CalFresh, CalWORKs, and/or Medi-Cal, are automatically enrolled. Children in foster care, experiencing homelessness, attending Head Start, and/or are considered a runaway are also categorically eligible and are automatically enrolled. SUN Bucks Card Mailing Schedule for 2025 Due to the large volume of automatically eligible children, SUN Bucks EBT cards will be mailed in two stages:
- Stage 1: (June 2025 – July 2025). Kids who are automatically enrolled in SUN Bucks will receive their cards in Stage 1.
- Stage 2: (August 2025 Until Card Mailings Are Complete).
Newly eligible kids will receive a SUN Bucks card in Stage 2 if they: • Meet income requirements certified through a school meal application or Universal Benefits Application that is submitted to their school by September 2, 2025, or • Get CalFresh, CalWORKs, and/or Medi-Cal (certified at or below 185% FPL) anytime between July 1, 2024 through September 2, 2025.
