    On Friday, January 26, the Redwood City – San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 120th award celebration, “Cheers to 120 Years!”

    I’d like to congratulate all the honorees on receiving this special recognition and thank them for their many contributions to Redwood City and San Mateo County. The 2017 honorees represent a diverse group of businesses and leaders in our community. All the recipients have made a lasting impact on the vibrancy of Redwood City, and have been a positive force for residents across San Mateo County.

    The 2017 Business Woman of the Year Award recipient was Lori Lochtefeld. Lori started two successful companies – Lacewell Realty and Lacewell Insurance in Redwood City, and with her husband Eric, saved the historic Fox Theatre from foreclosure, turning it into a renowned musical venue. She is also the founder of a charity to help foster children gain confidence and appreciation of the arts through theater. Congratulations on a well-deserved award, Lori!

    The 2017 Persons of the Year winners were Lucy Wicks and Don Cecil. Lucy is the Director of Community Relations at Stanford University and has been instrumental in bringing Stanford’s new campus to Redwood City and making it one of the largest employers in Redwood City. Don, a consultant with MC2 Bay Area Government & Public Affairs has always been ready to offer his expertise and support when needed, and has worked tirelessly to improve local government and build stronger communities. Both Lucy and Don have been involved with the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce for many years.

    The 2017 recipient of the Cornerstone Award, Cañada College, contributes time, talent, and resources to community development and philanthropic initiatives, and provides a supportive and positive environment for students. Thanks for growing future business and community leaders!

    The Golden Apple Award was given to Google for their significant contributions to supporting education in Redwood City and across the County. Google has provided funding and programmatic support of the Redwood City Elementary School District, the Redwood City Education Foundation, and San Mateo County’s “Big Lift” to boost childhood reading and transform early learning. Thank you, Google!

    The winners of the Legacy Award were Crippen & Flynn, Woodside Chapel, Graniterock Redwood City, Toyota 101, and Woodside Deli. As longtime businesses in our community, I’d like to congratulate these awardees for standing the test of time. Thank you for your many years of business!
