  • Earlier this week, San Mateo County honored four remarkable women at the 2017 Women in County Government 27th Annual Luncheon. These women, all County employees, were recognized for their outstanding service, hard work and dedication in helping the residents of San Mateo County.

I want to personally congratulate all the award recipients and thank them for their contributions to the County ‑ they have each earned a “Warren Award.” The honorees are:

Mariana Duenas, a Child Support Analyst with the Department of Child Support Services, received the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award. This award is given to an individual employed by the County for less than five years who exhibits exemplary performance. Mariana has proven herself dependable, trustworthy and efficient in her work helping families navigate the steps in the child support process, and expanding public awareness of child support services. Mariana is a volunteer for CASA of San Mateo County, an organization that works with foster children, and is completing her Master’s degree in Public Administration. Thank you for all your hard work, Mariana!

Lieutenant Christina Corpus with the Sheriff’s Office received the ‘Development Champion’ award for her work supporting and connecting others to help them reach a better future. Lt. Corpus started working for the County in 1995 and has been a leader in the Sheriff’s Office and mentor to many over the years. I want to thank Lieutenant Corpus specifically for her work in the North Fair Oaks community -- from organizing community basketball tournaments, arranging for Deputies to read at the Fair Oaks Library, and always being a responsive and caring representative of the County.  Thank you, Lt. Corpus!

Roxanne Clarke, a Psychiatric Social Worker at Canyon Oaks Youth Center was the recipient of the ‘Public Service: the Extra Mile Award.’ Roxanne’s work to help improve the lives of some of San Mateo’s most vulnerable residents is commendable. I want to thank Roxanne for placing the well-being of her clients at the highest level of importance -- giving every person the care and urgency that they deserve, and for her unwavering support when confronted with even the most difficult cases. Thank you, Roxanne!

This year, Reyna Ferrales, Deputy County Manager was our ‘2017 Special Honoree,’ to celebrate her retirement and many years of service to the County. Reyna’s work in performance management and her role as mentor and coach to local government professionals are some of the many reasons why she will be dearly missed. Thank you, Reyna for your service!

I always look forward to the Women in County Government luncheon for the opportunity to recognize the many accomplishments of the women who work for the County. I am honored to serve the people of San Mateo County alongside so many dedicated and hard working women.
