In honor of Women’s History month, I would like to introduce San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame inductee Dr. Faye McNair-Knox.
Dr. Faye was born and raised in East Palo Alto, something she is very proud of. She graduated from Stanford University in 1972, and went on to received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teacher Education from Stanford University in 1985. She was the 2010 Woman of the Year for Assembly District 21. Dr. Faye is the Executive Director of One East Palo Alto Improvement Initiative. Her work focuses on youth in East Palo Alto and consists of helping youth develop skills, helping families build resilience, and helping teachers improve on there teaching techniques. She started working with this program in 2004 and has made huge contributions in all three areas for the neighborhood she's proud to call home.
One East Palo Alto’s (OEPA) overarching mission is to develop resident leaders, broker resources and services, build the capacity of individuals and organizations, and advocate for change that leads to the improved social, physical, spiritual, educational and economic well-being of the people of East Palo Alto.
Dr. Faye was inducted into Stanford’s Multicultural Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001. She also received the Excellence in Economic Development Award in 2004 from the Community Development Institute in E.P.A. She was inducted into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015. Dr. Faye continues her work as the Executive Director of One East Palo Alto and a life of public service. She is devoted to making East Palo Alto a better city then it was yesterday.
