Last night we held our second Community Conversation on mental health and families and over 60 community members attended to discuss the triggers of mental illness. With the pressure of our current immigration system, the housing crisis, and the high cost of living we are seeing an alarming impact on our family’s mental health. This conversation came about from the families in North Fair Oaks who have voiced the need to discuss and learn more about the topic of mental health. The 60 attendees learned to watch for the warning signs within their families, particularly their children, in anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Every attendee received a folder with hotlines, county programs, and other information on mental health.

I want to thank our partners, the San Mateo County Behavioral Health Recovery Services for their presentation, and especially Claudia Saggese and Yolanda Valenzuela who shared her struggles with mental health. Also, thank you to the resource tables, StarVista, the Sheriff’s Office-CARON, SAL, and NAMI who were there interacting and providing resources to the community. But most important I want to thank the 60 attendees for joining us last night!
