May 19, 2009 - Supervisor Groom recognizes May 30-31, 2009 as Maker's Weekend
Redwood City - At the May 19th Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Groom announced the weekend of May 30-31, 2009 as officially Maker's Weekend to welcome the national Maker Faire festival that started in San Mateo in 2006. The festival recognizes the Do-It-Yourself, innovative and creative spirit that is recognized nationwide, and deeply rooted in Silicon Valley.
Supervisor Groom expressed her appreciation for the Maker Faire by sharing, "I'm delighted that Maker Faire has chosen to return to San Mateo County and the Event Center. This will be a great weekend for all the creative folks of Northern California and those who visit. America has such a thirst right now for creative self-expression and there's an incredible need for out-of-the-box innovation. Maker Faire embodies the best of both these worlds in a way that's smart and fun. We couldn't be happier to welcome Maker Faire to San Mateo and to declare May 30th & 31st, Maker's Weekend."
