Requirements
The Youth Commission is comprised of 27 youth between the ages of 13-21 who reside in San Mateo County. Commissioners serve a fixed term following the school year cycle from August to May. Recruitment for new members occurs from April to June each year. Visit this website for links to the application closer to recruitment time.
You may also join as a public member, without applying, and take part in all aspects of meetings. However, you will not be allowed to vote on Commission matters. Visit the Youth Commission Meetings page to view the public meetings calendar and the Youth Commission Agendas page for specific meeting agendas. Meeting agendas are posted on the website 72 hours prior to the meeting and contain the Zoom link.
If you are interested in applying to become a Youth Commission member, it is encouraged that you attend a few of the Public Meetings to experience what the Commission is about. While both the Executive Board and the main Public Meetings are open to the public, the Executive Board meetings are more for internal planning of the main Public Meetings, so we advise that you attend the main Public Meetings instead.
