Public and Locally Owned Housing
Public housing provides affordable housing to low-income families by utilizing Federal aid as well as rent income from the residents. There is one public housing development in San Mateo County: El Camino Village in Colma (30 units.)
Housing Authority Owned Property
Midway Village, a multi-family (families and seniors) development located in Daly City, was a Public Housing development. In May 2011, the property was converted to Section 8 Project-Based assistance, owned and operated by the Housing Authority.
Half Moon Bay Village in Half Moon Bay, owned and operated by the Housing Authority, provides Section 8 Project-Based assistance to low-income seniors. HACSM was the first in the western states to develop a project-based program for its own locally own units. It has proven to be financially advantageous since the development is now financially independent which was not before.
